OCIM - Orange Congregations in Mission
Orange Congregations In Mission is a private non-profit ministry composed of close to 50 congregations in northern Orange County, North Carolina. As a human services organization, OCIM strives to meet the emergency needs of those who find themselves in a crisis situation. We collect can good each month and donate them to their food pantry.
Central Elementary Backpack Program
We have partnered with staff and families at Central Elementary. We help provide school supplies, food, and housing for in need families.
Families Moving Forward
Right here in Durham, there are families who need our help. Families without a place to live. Families with young children. Families in need. Working together, we help provide families with children a stable, safe and loving environment while they are in the temporary crisis of homelessness. FMF now offers after school tutoring, educational enrichment programming, and early interventions to children residing in our shelter as part of a two-generation approach that aims to break the cycle of poverty in our community. Thanks to the ongoing teamwork of loving volunteers and professional staff, our families become self-reliant members of the community who can then give back to others in need.

Christmas in July
Pleasant Green collects school supplies in July to supply Orange county school with supplies for the school year. These supplies are donated to needy children within the schools.
Prayer Ministry
Members of Pleasant Green UMC gather to pray actively for our church and extended family members, church ministries; and local, national and global issues. We meet every 3rd Wednesday each month, 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Pleasant Green UMC in the parlor or via Zoom.
We are also planning ways to include shut-ins in our prayer life and ways to visit those in need. Come join us! For more information contact Gail Pruett at pruettg4mh@gmail.com or 919-696-7283. Everyone is welcome to join. Other prayer ministry members include Pastor Laura Thompson, Matt and Ceil Matthews, Gloria Perry, Ginger Link, Janice Nicholson and Beth Nichols.
Prayer is such a foundation in our lives; both personally and in our church. It is so many things; but, first, it is a conversation with God. You may have asked God to heal a loved one, find a job, or take away your hurt. You may have lifted your arms in gratitude when a prayer has been answered. You may have questioned God when a prayer was not answered the way you wanted.
Did you know? When we sing hymns and read psalms, we are also praying? When we don’t have the words ourselves, hymns, Bible verses, prayers written and spoken out loud by others can say the words for us. When we are angry and raise our voices to God, we are praying. We know God wants to hear it all. This is supported by the many scripture references to pray, praying and prayer in both Old and New Testaments. And, God wants us to listen to His answers. Jesus is the One to follow as our example of active prayer and a willingness to listen to our Father’s answers.
To make prayer visible and meaningful within the United Methodist Church (UMC), the UMC Book of Discipline includes a formal prayer program in its recommendations: e) The nurture, outreach, and witness ministries and their accompanying responsibilities shall include consideration of (i) the election of a prayer coordinator to promote prayer and mobilize the local church to pray, (ii) establishing a prayer room or designated place for prayer and prayer resources, and (iii) encouraging intentional prayer for the pastoral leadership of the local church. (www.umc.org; The Book of Discipline 2008, ¶ 252, 2. e).
We at Pleasant Green UMC advise praying daily. We want to make prayer a vital part of our lives from moment to moment. We strive to live our lives talking with God.

Common Thread Ministry
'Common Thread' is A Ministry to Comfort the Dying. A ministry of compassion whose goal is to provide happy, colorful butterfly pillowcases to those dying in hospice, nursing homes and in their own homes. The gift reminds them that they are loved. The butterflies remind them of resurrection in Christ. On each pillowcase is written: "I will lie down and sleep in peace. For you, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." Psalm 4:8. The scripture reminds us that we are safe in the Lord's care. This ministry was started by Com-mon Thread UMW Circle at Pine Valley UMC in Wilmington, NC.
GLOBAL MISSIONS

El Salvador
Since 2008, each year we make every effort to go in service to El Salvador. Over the years, we have developed a warm and good rapport with the people in the Ahuachapan area. Their need is great and their gratitude is overwhelming. A church now rests on the spot the first team served. PGUMC funded the cost of the land as well as the building of homes and construction on other churches. We have led a medical team there, and also had teams that did construction, food delivery and Bible School. Please contact Kathryn Dempsey or Jim Perry if interested.
