Food For All

Pleasant Green was one of the founding members of the Food for All program, a program that supplies meals Monday through Thursday in Hillsborough at two different sites.  This program serves mostly the working poor but we do have some that are truly homeless.  We have just started our fifth year with this program.  For the first four years Pleasant Green fed the hungry every other week, or 26 times per year.  During the fourth year we reduced to twice monthly at the request of the program because they had other churches and organizations that wanted to do fifth Tuesdays and this made scheduling easier.  Around October of last year the team leaders of Pleasant Green's program requested the larger Food for All group to reduce our participation to just once per month as we were experiencing "volunteer fatigue" and continuing with our twice a month schedule was falling especially hard on those faithful people who showed up to help every time. In January of 2010 we began with just a once a month.

Highland Service Project

June 20-26

The High School youth from Pleasant Green and several other area churches, along with adult supervisors, spend a week (typically in June) doing small building and renovation projects in and around the homes of senior citizens in Wake County who have qualified through the Social Services Department. With the assistance and support of many adults from Highland, the youth stay overnight in cabins at Umstead State Park, going out during the day as teams of five youth and two adults to do the designated service projects.

Murdoch

Every other month the students of Pleasant Green venture off to the Murdoch Center in Butner where they assist the patients in attending worship. This is a wonderful ministry in which we help and worship alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ.
