United Methodist Youth Fellowship
Pleasant Green UMYF is a ministry which intends to equip young Christians to be disciples of Jesus and full members of his church. As a vital part of this church community, we hope:
-to integrate the youth into the life of the church and not simply serve as a babysitter or a provider of entertainment.
-to encourage youth to use their talents to the service of the church and the world.
-to encourage youth to develop their relationships with one another and with God.
-to encourage youth to deepen their awareness of God’s presence with them.
-to encourage youth to reach out to their peers with the love of God.
-to encourage parents and other adults to become more involved with youth activities, and to ask themselves if God is calling them to serve as youth counselors.
Boy Scouts of America- Troop 467
The United Methodist Church is the largest sponsor of Boy Scouting in the country. Pleasant Green United Methodist Church has a long history with Boy Scouting. Troop 467 was started in 1950 with Daryl Flannery as Scoutmaster, serving for 30 years. The troop went dormant for a while and was resurrected in 1994 with Tim Marbrey (1994-2000) as Scoutmaster, followed by Dave Cook (2000-2007). Today our scoutmaster is Chris Murray.
Troop 467 camps every month, extensively throughout North Carolina, and 8 other states as well. Our scouts have gone to National Jamborees and Philmont Scout Ranch. The troop meets every Tuesday night at the church. Troop meetings have fun, educational programs and games. The program builds character, reverence, citizenship, leadership, environmental stewardship, and self-sufficiency with extensive time in the outdoors.
Boy Scouting is for boys ages 11(or 10 ½ and finished the 5th grade) up to 17. The troop is open to all boys in the community.
